What it does
Séance
The core mode. Run it solo, with a rising arc as the session goes on, or with a group gathered around one phone. FONOVOX pays attention to your real microphone level, not what you say, just how loud and how long, and answers when you go quiet.
Estes Method
The classic headphone protocol. One listener wears headphones, isolated from the room, and says out loud whatever they hear while the group asks questions. Words stay hidden until the session ends, so nothing leads the listener.
Scenario
A timed sequence built for video and storytelling. Five ready-made scenes, plus a simple editor to write your own, beat by beat, and save it for next time. No two plays come out identical.
A quieter mode
A fourth mode strips everything back to pure dark ambience, with words rare and deliberately hard to catch.
On-screen transcript
Every fragment that plays in Séance and Scenario mode is shown as text, live, the instant it plays, so you never miss what came through, and the app works for hard-of-hearing users too.

No sound is coming through
Check the silent switch and your device volume. FONOVOX respects the hardware mute switch on iOS by design.
What is the microphone permission for?
Only for reading the input LEVEL, to pace a session. Audio is never uploaded. See the privacy policy.
How do I change the language?
Pick the voice bank language in session setup. Your device language only sets the default, and the language stays locked until the session ends.
Where are my recordings?
On your device only, until you choose to share one with the system share sheet.
Privacy
FONOVOX collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs that phone home. The app works fully offline.
